Are you looking for someone who knows all about Australian shepherds, their ins and outs, ups and downs? Well, my friend, you have come to the wrong place. I’m not an expert, but I know from having Aussies on our farm, they make great pets and watch dogs.
A couple of years ago our goats kept breaking out of the fence. We decided a good pair of working dogs would help keep them corralled, so we brought home two Australian Shepherds, also known as Aussies.
Australian Shepherds are a medium-sized breed and, in my opinion, very lovable and loyal. They are perfect for us and their farm duties. Over the years, we’ve had about 5 Australian Shepherds and each one has been sweet, playful and full of life.
According to the website, “TheAustralianShepherd.net,” Aussies live anywhere from 9-18 years, grow to be 18-23 inches tall and can weigh 35-65 pounds. Breeding makes a big difference in the size. A fair price for an Australian Shepherd is $150 to $1,000 for a pet-quality dog and breeding can cost $300 to $2,000. Gender, confirmation and markings can influence the price, too.
In my opinion, if you are looking for a sweet, lovable, guard dog to protect your home, family and farm animals, get an Aussie.
